Carefully insert the closed blades of the speculum into the anus, angling slightly downward to follow the natural curvature of the rectum. Advance the speculum gently to minimize patient discomfort. Gradually open the speculum blades by using the handle or control mechanism provided with the speculum. This will allow access to the rectal and anal areas.
