Medical professionals use the Rigby Vaginal Retractor, also known as a Rigby retractor, in gynecological and obstetric procedures to grant access and visibility to the vaginal and cervical area. HOW TO USE:
Ensure that the Vaginal Retractor is clean and sterilized before use. Apply a small amount of water-based lubricating gel to the blades of the Rigby retractor to facilitate insertion. Hold the closed retractor with one hand, and with the other hand, separate the labia (outer folds of the vulva) to visualize the vaginal opening. Gently insert the closed retractor into the vaginal canal, angling it slightly downward to follow the natural curve of the vaginal canal. Gradually open the blades of the retractor by using the handle or mechanism provided. This action will gently spread the vaginal walls apart. Go slowly and carefully to minimize discomfort for the patient. Once the blades are open, you should have a clear view of the cervix. The blades should be positioned symmetrically on either side of the cervix.
